How To Register For The SATFor admissions in colleges in the United States, SAT exam is conducted. Earlier known to be the scholastic Test and Scholastic Assessment Test thereafter, SAT is a medium to check the students’ intellectual level.

They make sure that student is fit for studying in the finest colleges in the US. For freshmen, SAT or ACT is must. However, not all universities in the US have same admission criteria.

The Format of SAT Exam

The SAT exam is for 3 hours and 45 minutes. It has 3 sections namely Mathematics, Critical Reading, and Writing. Each section is of 800 points making a total of 200. There are 10 subsections apart from the equation section for which 25 minutes are given. Initially, the questions are easy. You will find that the level of difficulty increases as you go on.

This test is taken 7 times (in October, November, December, January, March, May and June) in a year in US and 6 times (not held in March) elsewhere. The SAT Reasoning Test may cost you $49. However, you’ll be charged $99 if you are in India or Pakistan. For the SAT Subject Tests, you’ll have to pay $22 and $73 for India and Pakistan.

Usually, students choose a date in their junior year, so that they can give the test again to improve the score in the senior year. You should have a considerable time gap between the registration date and the date of exam. This makes sure that you get the location and time you chose. You should always choose a location that is near your home. You can choose any nearby institute, high school or college for the test.

When you register online, filling in all the details and preferences, you get a confirmation. You even have the option to correct the details or print the admission card.

Registration through Mail

If you want to pay by either check or money order, more than 13 years old ,you want the test to be held in Benin, Ghana, Togo, Cameroon, or Nigeria, or you want the test on Sunday due to some religious reasons, then you’ll have to register through mail. You can refer to The Paper Registration Guide for the SAT and SAT Subject Tests to know about all the guidelines, deadlines, fees and proper instructions. Don’t forget to get a photograph that’ll be needed for the admission card/ticket.

If you are home schooled, then fill in 970000 as your code for high school. You should also have a student ID form, in case of no photo identification. This student ID form must be validated and dated from a notary public. Make sure your photo attached to it is recent.

There are a number of institutes, books and courses that promise the best SAT scores. But this may give an average score. Proper coaching is not necessary for the SAT preparation. Make sure you prepare the right way at the right time for the SAT exam. Regular tests and private classes can be beneficial.
